Village Capital Deploys USD 35K to Startups Tackling Food Waste and Food System Inefficiencies Across LatAm

Lee en español

Mexico City (October 21, 2025)Village Capital, in partnership with Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh, has concluded the Reshaping Food Systems LatAm accelerator program, an initiative designed to support founders reducing food waste and strengthening food security across Latin America. As part of this milestone, every startup in the cohort received milestone-based funding of USD 4,400 to advance their mission and scale their solutions.

Over the past months, participating founders gained tailored training, mentorship, and connections to strengthen both their business models and their impact. The program focused on investment readiness, peer-to-peer learning, and access to industry experts. Equipping startups with the tools to scale solutions that address the region’s most pressing food system challenges.

“Latin America is one of the world’s largest food producers, yet millions of tons are lost before they ever reach consumers,” said Daniela Guerrero, Program Manager at Village Capital. “These startups are proving that innovation can turn that challenge into an opportunity by helping farmers earn more, helping families access nutritious food, and reducing the climate impact of waste along the way.”

From tackling food insecurity to reducing waste across the supply chain, the startups in the Reshaping Food Systems LatAm cohort are driving meaningful change. For example:

  • In Bogotá, Colombia, EatCloud uses a data-driven platform to rescue unsold food from across the food ecosystem and redistribute it to social organizations through an AI-powered matching and analytics service.
  • In Monterrey, Mexico, Genius Foods produces high-quality dehydrated fruit and vegetable powders using light-based drying technology that extends shelf life and reduces food waste, serving food manufacturers.

  • In Lomas de Carrasco, Uruguay, UBI Meat uses an AI-powered image analysis to standardize meat grading, reduce waste, and optimize feedlot operations, bringing precision and traceability to the global meat industry.

These are just a few of the eight innovative startups that participated in the accelerator program, each working to reshape the way food is produced, distributed, and consumed in Latin America. With milestone-based funding and the tools gained from the program, these startups are now positioned to scale their solutions and transform regional food systems for the better.
