Village Capital is the largest organization in the world supporting impact-driven, seed-stage startups having supported 1,200 entrepreneurs since our founding in 2009. But we want to scale that number to 50,000 by 2030. That is where our newest initiative Friends of Hyper Protect comes in - a 40 company accelerator welcoming founders from all across the world.
Launching today, Friends of Hyper Protect draws upon our tried and tested virtual curriculum and peer learning methods and better leverages Abaca and our mentor and investor network. Being a global accelerator these features allow Village Capital and our partners to increase our impact whilst offering a more tailored offering to each startup, wherever they are in the world.
And we’re proud of the diversity of this year’s cohort. We received 210 applications for IBM Hyper Protect 2021, from entrepreneurs in 5 continents and 49 countries! Countries include Colombia, Jordan, Netherlands, Uganda, and Singapore! We are also very pleased that 65% of applicants this year had a female founder or co-founder, and 61% had at least one diverse founder.
After a careful selection process with insights from cross-regional experts, here are the 40 startups that are improving the quality of, and access to digital, financial, and healthcare services across the world:
